The restaurant has a beautiful setting and an excellent location, although the food itself was only so-so. Even so, it should have been one of the more enjoyable meals of our trip.
Unfortunately, the service was by far the most unpleasant we experienced during five days on the island, despite eating at all kinds of restaurants.
The entire experience was overshadowed by the man who appeared to be running or hosting the restaurant.
I travel extensively and eat everywhere from fine-dining restaurants to small family-run places. I genuinely struggle to remember encountering someone in a customer-facing role who came across as quite as UNFRIENDLY, ANGRY, HOSTILE, RUDE AND VISIBLY IRRITATED as he did.
His manner made us feel unwelcome from the outset.
To make matters worse, our pizza was mixed up with a completely different one. Mistakes happen and that in itself would not have been a major issue. What was far more disappointing was his reaction when we politely questioned it: rather than dealing with a straightforward mistake professionally, his manner became challenging and unnecessarily confrontational.
I do not know whether he is the manager, the person left in charge, or the owner.
If he is the manager, I would strongly urge the owner to reconsider whether he should be representing such a lovely restaurant.
If he is the owner, then he would be doing his own business an enormous favour by allowing somebody more professional to deal with customers.
Hospitality is not simply about serving food; it is about how guests are made to feel.
On that measure, our experience was TRULY poor. The restaurant has much going for it, but it was let down very badly by the person who appeared to be in charge.
He is, in my view, completely unsuited to a front-of-house hospitality role.
It is a real pity how some places leave you with wonderful memories of both the destination and its people, while others leave behind exactly the opposite.
